ART CITY AUSTIN commissioned us to install temporary entrance beacons for the upcoming weekend long art festival. "Robert Gay and Lucy Begg, of THOUGHTBARN, a local design/build firm, were commissioned by Art Alliance Austin to create entrance beacons for the Art City Austin 09.
Each entrance consists of small, operable FOIL leaves that move, react with air movement. The individual leaves are made from radiant heat barrier foil, normally used in to keep heat out of attics. The reflective foil creates a visually, playful art piece out of material usually hidden away from site.
Foil modules are all attached as to grid work of welded wire mesh suspended from tube and coupler scaffolding system. Each module is able to move with the wind and also provide a varying degree of reflection of the sun and refraction."
